We and our staff have developed a great team spirit, most of us having worked together for some years, and endeavour to ensure that each customer leaves the store with a smile, even if they do not enter with one! We are always sure ‘go the extra mile’ for our customers, being acutely aware that they are the life-blood of our store, and try to make sure that every shopper leaves satisfied.
There is a high proportion of older residents in our community and we make certain that all members of our team are ready to provide any extra help that may be needed by elderly or infirm customers; whether this be carrying their baskets while they shop, helping them to their cars or indeed anything else they might require. As there is no chemist in the village, we also provide a free of charge prescription service so that prescriptions can be dropped off and collected, when dispensed, directly from the store.
To encourage nutritious eating and a healthy approach to food we periodically donate fresh fruit and vegetables to Nettlestone Primary School for the children to take home.
Where possible we source our fresh goods from local providers with some produce, our free-range eggs and Isle of Wight honey for example, coming from within Nettlestone itself.
Vic’s Stores has been part of the community of Nettlestone since it was established in 1960 by my parent’s Vic and Jean Brading; I, Charles Brading took over the running of the shop in 1990 and, have been in continuous employment in the family business since the age of fourteen, making me the second generation to run Vic’s and the third to serve the community as a retailer of foods. I now run the store with my wife Linda – putting in between 60 and 80 hours work a week – and currently employ between 15 and 20 staff all of whom live in the village or surrounding area.  
In the past few years we have been recognised as a leading convenience store and have picked up the following awards: » 2010 Community Retailer of the Year
